Date the organisation was set up: January 1990
Aims of organisation:
Dundee Dalriada is the only Gaelic Football Club on the East coast of Scotland, and the purpose of Dundee Dalriada Gaelic Football Club is to provide pastoral care for anyone who is interested in irish sport and culture and who resides on the East of Scotland. This will include short term residents, sush as students of Irish origin who come to university in Dundee to pursue their tertiary education. By providing a forum for social integration and an avenue whereby those interested can continue to pursue Irish social and cultural activities, and disseminate these into primary and secondary schools.
Student focus: There is a very healthy level of Gaelic Sports at University level in Dundee. It is likely that the influx of Irish students into tertiary education in Dundee will continue, and this has the potential for the development of a self sustaining Irish community in Dundee underpinned by Gaelic games.
Dundee Dalriada GFC is affiliated to the Dundee City Sports Council. In parallel with this the University of Dundee GFC, The University of Dundee Hurling Club and The University of Dundee Shinty Club simultaneously affiliated to Dundee City Sports Council. Women’s Gaelic Football is also part of University Gaelic Games but Dundee Dalriada does not yet have a Ladies team. The restructuring of the Scottish County Board and the appointment of a Youth Development Officer in Scotland will hopefully underpin future underage Gaelic football developments.
